Hannah finally smiled, "Cards it is then." {Alright}

"Great!" John grinned, taking the cards and gesturing for them to sit down, shuffling the pack. "Now, the only rule of Mau that I can tell you at this point is this one."

Hannah sat down ready to play, "And what would that be?"

"The one I just told you," John grinned, dealing seven cards each before placing the pack in the middle and turning over the top card.

Allie reached for her cards to straighten them and John took another card from thhe pile and gave it to her. "Penalty for touching cards before gameplay has commenced." He grinned at Allie's confused look, but she didn't touch the cards again.

Hannah shook her head, "Are you making this up?" She asked with a smile, as she picks up her own cards and looks at them.

"No," John smiled, giving another card to Hannah with the same pronouncement.

Hannah took the card and added it to her hand, "Now what?"

"The game of Mau has now commenced, you may pick up your cards,"John stated,, picking up his cards. Allie hesitated before doing the same. THey both rearranged their cards in their hand until they were happy.

Hannah did the same, "What's next?"

"We play," John said simply. Allie lay down a two tentatively, but he didn't say anything.

Hannah thought for a moment, I have no idea what in Hades I'm doing she thought as she put down a 5.

John put down another 5, changing the set. Allie set down a third five, changing it again.

Hannah thought again, starting to understand more. Sort of. Almost. Not quite. This time she put down an ace.

John set down a two of the same set, and Allie the three that followed it.

Shoot now what? These rules don't make sense. She looked at her cards and thought. She had 4 sevens, and a queen. Not knowing what else she put down the 4 sevens.

"Penalty for putting down the wrong amount of cards and penalty for not saying strudel," John saidd, giving her two penalty cards and the thrree unmatching sevens back.He picked up a card and Allie tentatively put down an eight.

"These rules don't make any sense." She says with a laugh as she takes the cards. She then looks down at the pile, "Oh du. I see it now." Hannah puts down 2 of the same suite.

"Penalty for putting down the wrong amount of cards," John said again, giving her one she put down back and another penalty card. He picked up a card and Allie laid down a king.

"Mhg" Hannah grumbled, "This is so frustrating." she complained with a small laugh, taking her card and putting down a queen

"Have a nice day," John grinned, layiing down a Jack. Allie laid down a ten.

Hannah put down a 9

John set down another. Allie did the same.

This time Hannah set down another 10.

John set down another, with Allie eliminating all tens from play.

Hannah sets down another 9.
